Foundation Establishes Sunday CanSurvive Group Meetings

News Image

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation sponsored its first CanSurvive meeting. The meeting was held from 2:00 until 4:00 at the Brookwood Wellness Center (adjacent to Gold's Gym) in Vestavia. Officers of the CanSurvive group were present along with many of the Foundation board members. All who attended shared their experiences as to how cancer had touched their lives and why they felt the need to be a part of the meeting. It was great to see such an outpouring of caring and support evidenced during this first Sunday meeting of the group. Topics for future meetings were discussed and door prizes were given away.  Refreshments were provided by the Foundation as well.

The CanSurvive GYN Support Group is for women with gynecologic cancers, their families, friends, loved ones and the professionals who treat them. We recognize that in addition to excellent medical care, there is a deep need for emotional, spiritual, and educational support when faced with the challenge of a life-threatening illness.

CanSurvive also meets regularly on the third Friday of each month at the Birmingham American Cancer Society from noon until 1:00. Lunch is always provided at these meetings. For more information about CanSurvive, visit their website at http://www.cansurvivesupportgroup.org.

The next Sunday meeting sponsored by the Foundation will be on Sunday, December 5 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Brookwood Wellness Center in Vestavia. The meeting is open to all cancer survivors and their caregivers/families. All are welcome!
