LCBOCF awards first grant!

On February 1, 2011 The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation awarded the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine a research grant for $50,000.00. The funding will be used to support the Ovarian Cancer Early Detection by TEM1 Targeted Molecular Imaging project.  Previous research has showed that TEM1 is highly expressed in more than 90% of ovarian cancers. Therefore, TEM1 targeted molecular imaging will open the possibility of ovarian cancer early detection.

Jim Crandall, Co-founder of the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation and president of the board of directors had the following to say:  "I am so proud and pleased that in our first year, with the generous support of so many, we are making this grant to assist with cutting edge research. Our hope is that we can further the work currently being conducted at the University of Pennsylvania Ovarian Cancer Research Center in their pursuit of a reliable diagnostic test for ovarian cancer."

Dr George Coukos, Director of the Ovarian Cancer Research Center expressed his gratitude by saying: "I am honored that you identified our group and solicited a proposal. We are thrilled that the project is funded. We are looking forward to making important contributions thanks to your generous support."

The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation was founded in December 2009 by Laura Crandall Brown & her father, James "Jim" Crandall.  At the age of 25 Laura lost her 15 month battle with ovarian cancer.  LCBOCF focuses on education to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, and to help fund research for an early detection diagnostic test.  Visit our website http://www.thinkoflaura.org/ for more information.
