$50,000 AWARDED TO FIND DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR OVARIAN CANCER
The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Dr. Rodney Rocconi at the Mitchell Cancer Institute, University of South Alabama. Dr. Rocconi is developing a cancer screening tool to test for endometrial and ovarian cancer which affect 40,000 women each year. These cancers have a high survival rate when diagnosed at Stage 1, but less than 23 percent when diagnosed at Stage 3 or 4. Because these cancers have few symptoms they often go undetected until they have spread. Mitchell Cancer Center scientists, Dr. Rodney Rocconi, Dr. Michael Finan, and Dr. Louis Pannell are working with Swift Biotechnology to develop this early screening test.
