 Glowing in Teal!
Glowing in Teal!

On Tuesday, September 4, gyn cancer survivors, family members, caregivers, physicians, researchers, advocates and supporters met at Union Station in Montgomery to celebrate the historic lighting of the State Capitol in teal. First Lady, Dianne Bentley attended and read a special proclamation from the Governor commemorating this day as awareness day bringing attention to ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers. Dr. Ron Alvarez from UAB and Dr. Rod Rocconi from Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile both gave heartwarming and informative talks about their experiences with the care of patients and the efforts being made in research and treatment. This event, sponsored by CanSurvive, a support group from Birmingham, was also attended by other support groups and foundations from around the state. Survivors and family members of those who fought the good fight delivered heartwarming accounts of their experiences and for their resolve to continue the mission of awareness.

The ceremony ended with lighting of candles and a wonderful rendition of This Little Light of Mine.
