On Tuesday, July 16, 2013, we had the pleasure of being the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Baldwin County Association of Legal Professions. Cecilia Crandall spoke to this very interested group on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and how to recognize and seek treatment. The members in attendance participated by asking a number of questions not only about Laura's experience but about some general misnomers of this disease.

This group's meeting is held each month at the Magnolia Blossom Cafe on Highway 59 in Robertsdale, Alabama. As we worked to set up our presentation equipment in the banquet room, we met Virginia Summerlin. Virginia was most helpful in welcoming us to her restaurant. As we began to explain our mission and erect our foundation banner, she quickly exclaimed, "I'm an ovarian cancer survivor!"  We learned more about her story and were amazed by this interesting coincidence. She is obviously determined to beat this disease and was happy to pose for a picture with Debbie Rutherford, 1st Vice-President of the BCALP. Many of those who attended took an awareness bracelet and thanked us for such an informative presentation.

BCALP is a chapter of the AALS statewide legal professionals association and NALS, the national association. Their purpose is to bring together legal secretaries, paralegals and professionals to educate, inspire, enhance and promote professionalism in the legal profession.  If you would like more information about this organization, you may visit their website by clicking here.

If you would like to request a speaker for an upcoming group or event, please complete our online request. We will contact you to make the necessary arrangements. There is no charge associated with this service.

The Mission of The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is to provide funding in support of research in the early detection and treatment of ovarian cancer. It is imperative that we bring awareness and educate the public about this silent killer. By focusing on early detection - We have the chance to fight it, to beat it, to live!
