On Friday, September 6, a chartered bus full of "awareness advocates" left Pelham for Montgomery as the second year of celebrating gynecologic cancer awareness was once again observed. The bus trip was arranged through the devoted efforts of members and friends of CanSurvive support group. Participants donned a uniquely designed t-shirt to observe this day and also enjoyed a box lunch (generously donated by the Birmingham Doubletree Hilton Hotel) during the trip south.

Once we arrived in Montgomery at Union Station, we enjoyed the sounds of the MAKing a Difference Band and a wonderful program of speakers to include Kelly Rice, Angela Dainas, Jennifer Cunningham, Dr. Max Austin, Nan Galik, Jennifer Smiley, and our own Jim and Cecilia Crandall who spoke on Family Matters. Representative Paul DeMarco made remarks and read the proclamation issued by Governor Bentley declaring September 6 Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Day in the State of Alabama.

Following the program, the group boarded the bus and visited the State Capitol which had been lit in teal. On the way to the Capitol, we also observed the Renaissance Hotel and the RSA Building glowing in teal as well. See the more pictures link to view additional photos of the evening.

Special thanks to CanSurvive and their sponsors who made this day of celebrating awareness a wonderful reality. You can view more pictures on their Facebook page by clicking here.
