September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. A large part of the Foundation's mission is to raise awareness to the symptoms of ovarian cancer. This mission is even more important during the month of September. Laura's mom, Cecilia, is very dedicated to this aspect of our work.

Cecilia presented multiple times during the month of September. After a September 5th appearance before a very interested group of Protective Life employees, our awareness campaign continued.

Jim and Cecilia Crandall joined together to address the members of Oakmont Methodist Church on September 15. They were well received and the congregation was most interested in the research being done in the areas of early detection.

On Thursday, September 19th, Mrs. Crandall presented to a group of ACIPCO employees. The ACIPCO Wellness program afforded this opportunity and the presentation was recorded for use on the company's intranet for later viewing by those who could not attend.

On Wednesday, September 25th, we were welcomed by Mrs. Barclift's Mental Health in Social Work students at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Terri Shaw, whose aunt, Cheri Perry, passed away recently from uterine cancer, invited us to come and present to this group of students on the symptoms of both uterine and ovarian cancer and the work being done by research as well as our Foundation. Terri herself is a huge advocate of the cause and is very devoted to "Make it Matter" as she promised her aunt prior to her death. In fact, Terri has adopted that name for her relay team! In an effort to bring attention to awareness during the month of September, Terri was able to get the JSU Gamecock cheerleaders (including the Gamecock himself) to wear teal ribbons at their September 28th game!

Thanks to Sherri Snow of ACIPCO Wellness and Terri Shaw of Jacksonville State for helping to coordinate these sessions and help us to spread the word about symptoms of these cancers. Make sure to click the more pictures link to see additional photos.

If you would like to book a speaker for your organization, simply complete our online form and we will contact you. We would be happy to travel outside of the Birmingham area. This is a free service and is an important facet of our mission so no group is too small.
