Press Release - LCBOCF Presents Check to UAB

On Thursday, November 7, 2013, Jim Crandall, President of the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation, presented a check for $25,000 to Dr. Ronald Alvarez and Dr. Max Austin of the UAB Department of Gynecologic Cancer. Dr Austin spoke of the UAB Ovarian Cancer Initiative that will build a basic science research center and recruit top scientists to work exclusively in the area of Ovarian Cancer. The presentation was made during the Foundation’s 4th Annual Judith March Taste of Teal auction/dinner.

Since its inception in January of 2010, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling $150,000 to three specific pilot programs, most recently in November of 2012 to UAB. Mr. Crandall spoke on behalf of the board of directors about this specific award:

“We are very pleased to support UAB’s efforts to further research in the area of ovarian cancer. I look forward to seeing their efforts bring focus to this specific type of cancer and including it to the great work already being done at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.”

The mission of the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is to fund research in areas of early detection and raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.
