The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce that Carol Crawford and General Michael Diamond have joined the Executive Board of Directors of the Foundation.

Carol K. Crawford currently serves as a Consultant to A+ College Ready, a division of the A+ Education Partnership.  She was the principal developer of the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) Grant Proposal in 2007, which resulted in the award of a 13.2 grant from NMSI and the formation of A+ College Ready. Crawford served as Program Director for the organization from September 2007 until her retirement from the Alabama State Department of Education in December of 2010. Since retirement Crawford has successfully developed grant applications to both public and private entities to spearhead the fundraising efforts for the Alabama Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program (APTIP). She collaborated with the University of Alabama in the development of the CS10K National Science Foundation Grant and is managing the sub-grant award to A+ College Ready for this project.

Prior to Ms. Crawford’s work with A+ College Ready, she held various positions within the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), including serving as a Coordinator with the Classroom Improvement Section of the SDE.

Ms. Crawford received both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Michael Diamond is a retired US Army Major General with 40 years experience in both the military and corporate sectors.  He is retired from BellSouth, where he worked as a training consultant in the Regulatory Department, and he is currently President and CEO of LEADERSnMotion.

General Diamond began his military career by being commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Alabama in May, 1974. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Alabama, Masters in Industrial Management from the George Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. In addition, he holds a Masters of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.

General Diamond has commanded the 377th Theater Support Command (Forward), Camp Arifijan, Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom; 32d Transportation Group, Tampa, Florida; and the 3d Transportation Movement Control Agency, Anniston, Alabama. He also served at US Central Command as the Deputy Director of Logistics and as the Director of Coalition Coordination.

General Diamond is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He is in the process of writing and publishing a book on leadership to be published in early 2015.


The mission of the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is to provide funding in support of research in the early detection and treatment of ovarian cancer. It is imperative that we bring awareness and educate the public about this silent killer. By focusing on early detection - We have the chance to fight it, to beat it, to live!
