Every 37 minutes, a woman dies from ovarian cancer.  There is no reliable early detection test for ovarian cancer, and currently only 15% of cases are detected early, resulting in survival rates that are much lower than other cancers that affect women.  More than 21,000 women will die this year from the disease, and every 24 minutes a new case is diagnosed.

“The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is excited to partner with the Bourlands on this event,” said Mary Anne King, Executive Director.  Ginny touches everyone she meets in a positive way, whether it’s with her story or her wonderful personality.  She is a daily example of how personal strife can be channeled into an opportunity to help others.  That idea is something Laura (Crandall Brown) also personified, and is the reason the foundation exists today.”

About Ginny:  Ginny Bourland was diagnosed in the summer of 2011 with Stage IV ovarian cancer and has had two recurrences since then.  She is married to husband Shea and works as an Actuary at VIVA Health.  She stays busy raising her two beautiful children, Will and Bella, and has become a great advocate in the gynecologic cancer community, playing a prominent role in raising awareness and funds, and promoting educational opportunities.

About the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation:  The Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that was established in 2010 by family and friends of Laura Crandall Brown, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 25.  Our mission is to fund research in the early detection of ovarian cancer and to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of this silent killer.  For more information visit www.thinkoflaura.org.
