FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Birmingham, Ala., May 25, 2016 – The Hope for Autumn Foundation and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation have partnered with Milo’s Famous Tea for the second year to “Make a Stand” against childhood and ovarian cancer. From now until July 4th, individuals and groups can sign up to receive a kit to host their own lemonade stand to raise money to fund research for childhood and ovarian cancer. Each kit, sponsored by Milo’s Famous Tea, will contain 2 gallons of Milo’s Lemonade, cups, and a paper banner. Prizes will be given to the three stands with the highest fundraising totals, as well as the stand with the best banner design. Individuals and teams can register at www.thinkoflaura.org/makeastand.

“This idea came from a young girl in Vestavia who hosts an annual lemonade stand in her neighborhood to raise money for our organization,” said Mary Anne King, Laura Crandall Brown Foundation Executive Director. “We thought it was a wonderful idea – a fun activity for the whole family, and something that enables children to make a difference in a tangible way.” “ We are so excited to be partnering with Laura Crandall Brown Foundation again this year for this fun event that gives and families something fun to do while raising awareness and funds for suck important causes." Said Amanda Knerr, Executive Director for the Hope for Autumn Foundation. " My Own 13 year old daughter relapsed with ovarian cancer last November, so ovarian cancer AND childhood cancer are two causes that are so personally important to us and we love the joining of forces."

The “Make A Stand” initiative is intended to shine a light on the need for research funding for childhood and ovarian cancer, and the widespread impact these diseases have on moms, daughters, and families as a whole. Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer, and 58 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. 1 out of 8 children with cancer will not survive, and almost half of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will not live more than five years past diagnosis. There is a critical need for research for these cancers, both of which are drastically underfunded.
