As a part of our mission, the Foundation strives to reach out to groups to provide more information on the signs and symptoms of ovarian and gyn cancers. On October 1, 2015, Cecilia Crandall, mother of Laura Crandall Brown addressed the Randolph County Extension Office's "Pink and Teal" Luncheon. Approximately 20 women attended the meeting which was held at the ALFA Building in Wedowee, Alabama. A delicious meal of chicken and pasta salad with rolls and desserts was served just prior to the presentation. The tables were decorated beautifully with a pink and teal theme and the room even included a beautiful white Christmas tree decorated with pink and teal and silver bulbs. Under the tree were door prizes which were awarded to winners at the end of the luncheon.

Mrs. Crandall's presentation began with a brief video which included comments and discussions by ovarian cancer patients, their families and a doctor who specializes in treatment of women with these diseases. She went through a brief presentation afterwards which reiterated many of the points made in the video and thereafter answered questions posed by attendees. Board member Doris Moody spoke on the many fundraising efforts conducted by the Foundation which have resulted in funding of over $250,000 to multiple research facilities focusing on early detection screening.

Tiffany Moore, Randolph County Extension Coordinator, whose mother was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, shared insight into her mother's experience and journey with this disease. Sharon Haynes, Coosa County CEC, addressed the ladies giving them a history of her years of work creating the BATTLE initiative which raises awareness to the need for annual mammograms for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. In addition, breast cancer survivor Juanita Winegar spoke to the group sharing her personal journey of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Her topic consisted of the Top 10 things she learned from her experience. Her story was both moving and amusing.

The Pink and Teal Luncheon was initiated to raise awareness to the symptoms of both breast cancer and GYN cancers.

Ms. Moore presented Mrs. Crandall with a gift at the end of her presentation.
