Thanks to the many sponsors, golfers, and volunteers who came out to participate in the second annual Get Busy Fighting golf tournament.  Despite a little liquid sunshine, the event was a great success, and a wonderful tribute to ovarian cancer survivor and advocate Ginny Bourland.

The day began with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the clubhouse and breakfast provided by Panera Bread and Royal Cup Coffee. Participants had an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and took chances on a number of valuable prizes, including a Scott Cameron putter, Yeti cooler (donated by Rocky Ridge Hardware), a beautiful pendant necklace (donated by Jewels by Rose), a golf bag (from Beef O'Brady's), Talladega race passes, PGA Superstore membership and more.

At 9:00 a.m., our golfers took off for our four-person scramble tournament. Upon completion of the course, our participants were treated to a box lunch provided by Newk's. Drinks were provided by Supreme Beverage and Coca Cola.

Our winners received some awesome prizes at the awards ceremony. Among the winners were:

  • 1st Place Gross (53)
    • Markham, Markham, McElhany and Waller
  • 2nd Place Gross (56)
    • Pearce, Long, Baker and Jones

Shea Bourland expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support for this event: "We had a great turnout this year despite the weather. Ginny and I are so excited each year to be a part of helping this great foundation achieve its goals in raising awareness and finding an early detection tool. Our team/volunteers did an outstanding job securing sponsors and gifts. We look forward to growing this event again next year. Thanks again to all who braved the rain."

We so appreciate the support by all our participants as well as our sponsors. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to further the Foundation's mission which includes research, awareness and support.
